Eric's List of "Need To Know" Items Concerning the Important Issues of Today

Need to Read

New from Answers in Genesis president Ken Ham:

Already Gone, a book by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer, with Todd Hillard

Statistics reveal a huge disconnect taking place between our children and their church experience... Nationwide polls and denominational reports are showing that the next generation is calling it quits on the traditional church. And its not just happening on the nominal fringe; it’s happening at the core of the faith.

ObamaCare = Gov't funded abortion and euthanasia

From an email sent to Eric :

There is battle going on in Washington D.C. that may be the most serious attack on The Sanctity of Life since The Supreme Court made abortion legal with Roe v Wade in 1973.

The casualties will be the most vulnerable among us – the unborn, the elderly, the handicapped, cancer patients, and those most gravely ill – if the proposed Government Take Over of Health Care is allowed to become law.

To stop that from happening, go to www.FreeourHealthCareNow.com and sign this petition.

The National Abortion Bill?

That is what the legislation should be called, because the bill pending in Congress includes the unlimited right of a woman to end the life of her baby, with the government footing the bill. And groups like Planned Parenthood will be the beneficiaries of your tax dollars.

To stop the state sponsorship of abortion, ACT NOW.

The National Euthanasia Bill -- a nation of Terri Schiavo’s?

In 2005, a COURT ordered the removal of a feeding Tube from Terri Schiavo. It outraged a nation. If the Government takes over health care, bureaucrats will decide who lives and dies in America. In the name of “creating efficiencies,” they will delay – or deny - treatment to critically ill patients because it costs too much.

We will have a NATION of Terri Schiavo’s, with a faceless Federal Bureaucracy pulling the plug instead of a Court!

Sound crazy? It happens every day in Great Britain.

You can STOP what will in effect be government sponsored euthanasia in America if you ACT NOW.

If you care about the Sanctity of Life, the proposed Government Takeover of Health Care is an attack on your values.

Because health care should be about preserving life, not ending it!

Some Post-Election Prescriptions

Answers in Genesis is offering a "Post-Election Prescription" - it's just what the doctor ordered! Check it out in AiG's email archive. Featured products include: Global Warming Pack (thinking in biblical ways on this topic), War of the Worldviews, Genesis: The Key to Reclaiming the Culture, and much more!

And now for some further Christian analysis of the 2008 election, including a look at the successful defenses of marriage at the polls in Arizona, California, and Florida, go to these Focus on the Family Broadcasts:

The Media Should Be Ashamed...

The Wall Street Journal Online has posted a very accurate opinion article shaming the mainstream media and its adherents on the left for much disgraceful treatment of President Bush. You can read it here: The Treatment of Bush Has Been a Disgrace. One verse from the Bible comes to mind:

"Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Matthew 5:11-12 ESV)

Not that this indicates that Bush or anyone else is considered a "prophet"; just that as the men of God who were prophets were persecuted in the Old Testament times, so will the followers of Christ be persecuted by those in the world. This is because the world hates Christ, and it hates the things of God. So we should be expecting that the world hates the followers of Christ. To me, this would explain the undeniable, unjust, and over-the-top hatred that the mainstream media and many of its followers have had for President Bush during these last eight years.

Please pray for President Bush as he prepares to step down from his position as president. Pray also for his staffers, that they would not be unjustly punished as "war criminals" and so forth, just because those in the world (here and abroad) would hate George Bush. Pray for those taking power in January, especially President-Elect Barack Obama, that they might govern justly and seek the blessing and guidance of God Almighty, and that as needed, their hearts may be changed and reformed, so that they may seek the true, one-and-only God, Creator of heaven and earth, through His Son Jesus Christ, instead of chasing after false idols of their own making. May God have mercy on this country.

And the Biggest Loser Is...

In this 2008 election, the biggest loser is the unborn. For those that doubt, read past posts listed on down below, looking specifically at the links on Barack Obama's abortion extremism. But for something new from pastor Tim Bayly, read this critical analysis on what has happened.

Blog and Mablog offers some further analysis on thinking of the outcomes of this election. Read the post by Douglas Wilson.

No Time to Lose

In his post-election post, Albert Mohler notes that even though Barack Obama has been elected president, the cause of the pro-life movement continues, with these issues being nothing less than matters of life and death. We are also told to pray for our leaders, and this continues to be true. Read Dr. Mohler's comments: America Has Chosen a President.

With that said, I would like to turn attention to a more pointed commentary that is a bit more political in nature, but introduces some critical points to what we have to look forward to in this country going forward. It is from Christian blogger Dan Phillips of the blog Biblical Christianity, and it is entitled A Lament for America.

Hope?

Well, it is official. Barack Obama has won the 2008 election. Instead of highlighting the extreme dangers of this decision by the American electorate (you can read down below for that), I'd like to point to two very thoughtful programs from the Albert Mohler show that are worth a listen:

  • To reiterate his writings linked below (see "Prayer for America..." below), Albert Mohler and Russell Moore discuss the need for thinking in Christian ways about this election: listen here.
  • And for another comment on the election, I recently saw a clever quote on another website: "If Obama is reason for hope, is there any hope for reason?" That is an interesting question, related to this other recent broadcast by Albert Mohler: Voting on Reason or Emotion?
  • Here is another excellent commentary on the state of this country that has led us to decisions made in this election (although the post was written before the election occurred); there is much here to consider: Read Ken Ham's How Will Americans Vote?

A Prayer for America on Election Day

A great article to read for Election Day by Albert Mohler: A Prayer for America on Election Day. With so much at stake in the election, may this be our prayer for the country today (from the linked article by Dr. Mohler): "that God will bless America with leaders better than we deserve".

Welcome to Issues 2008

Here is a quick list of some "Need-To-Know" issues that are of utmost importance leading into Nov 4, 2008.

One of the most important issues should be the right to life. While there are those who believe that no one should be a "single-issue" voter, after all there certainly are many important issues facing this nation, please remember that this country was founded on a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is therefore certain that without a "first things" protection of life, nothing else is going to matter. When an unborn child can lose her life at the hands of the mother's "choice", that child is a human being denied not only her life, but also her liberty and pursuit of happiness.

If readers at this site read or listen to nothing else, the following links are of utmost importance - don't miss out on reading and listening to those immediately below:

  • Chuck Norris (that's right, Chuck Norris) writes I'm Voting for Those Not Yet Born at Townhall
  • Albert Mohler speaks on the issue: go here and click either link after "MP3 Audio" to listen
  • A "Can't Miss" sermon by Russell Moore, Joseph of Nazareth Is a Single-Issue Evangelical: Click to listen here (Dr. Moore teaches at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary)

For more crucial writings on the rights of the unborn to life, see these excellent articles:

  • Obama's Abortion Extremism by Robert George; Can one be against abortion and still support "choice"? Would we have considered those who opposed slavery during the Civil War as "against choice"? Robert George makes a fascinating case against Obama's Abortion Extremism.
  • A Dangerous Time to be a Black Baby by Anne Hendershott; Nearly half of all African American pregnancies end in abortion. How can a candidate who supposedly stands up for minorities justify his defense of the abortion industry?
  • Albert Mohler has more: Pro-Lifers for Obama? (episode of daily radio program)
  • Obama on marriage: As your President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws. ...I support the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) – a position I have held since before arriving in the U.S. Senate. That should be a major concern for all voters with a traditional view of marriage. Read on: PDF document of Obama on marriage.

Children At Risk

From Gary Bauer'’s End of Day, sent via email

My friends, if you need a reminder about what is at stake in this election, go right now to www.citizenlink.org and listen to Dr. James Dobson'’s broadcast on same-sex “marriage” and socialism.

Dr. Dobson’'s guests were David and Tonia Parker and Ravi Zacharias. For those not familiar with David Parker’'s story, he spent a night in jail and was hauled before a court in handcuffs for trying to protect his five-year-old son from homosexual indoctrination in the Massachusetts public schools after that state’s Supreme Court ordered same-sex “marriage” by judicial fiat.

That is what is at stake in six days: our children. Unelected judges are redefining our cherished values, threatening religious liberty and allowing militant activists to indoctrinate your children in the name of “diversity.” I know every parent would risk going to jail to defend their kids. But I am praying that millions of people will go to the polls to defend their values on November 4th so that won’t be necessary!

Trick or Treat this November 4th?

Will we be "treated" or "tricked" on this upcoming election? That of course depends on the vote and how the elected candidate chooses to use his four years in the White House. At stake this year is a culture of life vs. a culture of death, free enterprise vs. socialism, and liberty (for instance, your 1st and 2nd Amendment rights) vs. a "Big Brother"-style government that would love to control every corner of your life. Be informed about those for whom you are voting. Read through some of these links below that discuss the candidates and these very issues.

The Culture of Life vs. The Culture of Death

Free Enterprise vs. Socialism

Liberty vs. Big Government
