From: Gary L. BauerCOUNTDOWN TO NOVEMBER 4TH: 12 DAYS TO ELECTION DAYBREAKING NEWS
Yesterday, I told you to ignore the polls. I stand by that statement. Polls are at best snap shots in time and can be manipulated by suspect polling methods. What is important to look at, however, are consistent trends. And in the past 24 hours, two polls have been released that show the race narrowing dramatically.
For example, today’s
Investors Business Daily poll, one of the more accurate polls in 2004, is now showing a statistical dead heat, with Obama up by just one percentage point. Tuesday, McCain trailed by six points. Yesterday, he trailed by 3. According to the pollster, this “McCain surge” is happening among “middle and working-class voters, those earning between $30,000 and $75,000. He has also gone from an 11-point deficit to 9-point lead among Catholics.”
This is hopeful news, my friends, but the only poll that matters is the one that will be taken on November 4th when you go to the polls!
The Left Has A Problem With Freedom
The political Left has a problem with freedom – it doesn’t like it. When the Left fails to get its agenda approved by the people or passed by elected legislatures, where does it turn? Most often to the courts, where unelected judges rewrite our laws at whim.
That’s exactly what happened with abortion 35 years ago, and it’s happening today with the meaning of marriage. And when the free people of this country try to rein in these robed radicals, liberal politicians like Barack Obama and Joe Biden respond by calling their efforts “divisive and discriminatory” and “regressive and unfair.”
Here’s another example: Free speech and the Fairness Doctrine. Rather than allowing free speech to flourish in the market place of ideas, the Left wants to regulate it with the Orwellian-named “Fairness Doctrine.” Do you really want politicians and government bureaucrats deciding what is “fair”?
Liberal New Mexico Democrat Senator Jeff Bingaman isn’t being shy about his support for reintroducing the Fairness Doctrine. He recently said in an interview that in his view, “...radio -- and media generally -- should have a higher calling than just reflect a particular point of view. They should use their authority and broadcast power to present an informed discussion of public issues...” You can hear the shocking Bingaman interview
here.
In an ideal world, where journalists were truly objective, we would have a fair discussion of the issues, but that is not the case now. (More on that in my next item.) The Left has
ABC,
CBS,
CNN,
NBC,
MSNBC,
PBS, the
New York Times, the
Washington Post and just about every other major metropolitan newspaper.
Fox News along with Christian and conservative talk radio IS THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, providing balance to the rest of the biased leftwing media.
But balance isn’t the objective. It’s control. As I said, the Left has a problem with freedom, and if it takes control of the government in 12 days, it intends to control those “rogue media elements” that aren’t already in the tank for Obama. Then it will impose hate crimes laws to control what you believe and what you can say. It’s already happening in Europe and Canada.
It’s Official: Media Are Biased For Barack
While Democrat Jeff Bingaman pines for a balanced press (meaning even more liberal and fewer conservative voices), a new study by the Project for Excellence in Journalism finds the media’s coverage of the campaign is decidedly biased for Barack.
The Project surveyed media coverage of the two campaigns during a six week period beginning September 8th. Here’s what it found: Coverage of Senator Obama was 36% positive, 35% neutral or mixed and 29% negative. In contrast, Senator McCain’s coverage was 57% negative and just 14% positive.
Here’s an example of the media’s blatant bias. Governor Sarah Palin recently did an interview with
CNN’s Drew Griffin. During the interview, Griffin noted that even conservatives have attacked her and proceeded to cite as an example a story from the conservative
National Review, which, in Griffin’s words, said, “I can’t tell if Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, or all of the above.”
As it turns out, Griffin had lifted a quote from Byron York, who was describing how unfair the media’s treatment of Sarah Palin has been. Here is the relevant section of York’s article -- notice the difference a little context makes:
“Watching press coverage of the Republican candidate for vice president, it’s sometimes hard to decide whether Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward, or — or, well, all of the above. Palin, the governor of Alaska, has faced more criticism than any vice-presidential candidate since 1988, when Democrats and the press tore into Dan Quayle. In fact, Palin may have it even worse than Quayle…”
York goes on to note, “…a look at Palin’s 20 months in power, along with interviews with people who worked with her, shows her to be a serious executive, a governor who picked important things to do and got them done — and who didn’t just stumble into an 80 percent job-approval rating.”
And he concludes his column with some observations of her governing style:
“First, she hires well. …Second, she is involved with details on some big things, but not on everything. …Third, she is dead set on fulfilling campaign promises.”
That, my friends, is the kind of change we need in Washington. Not higher taxes and more spending, “spreading the wealth,” Big Government socialism!
